Description
"By Any Other Word"
A digital soft pastel pop art painting of a bouquet of roses in full bloom, in sumptuous hues of coral, blue, gray, peach and black. The title is a quote (often misquoted) from the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet, my favorite scene in Franco Zeffirelli's version of the Shakespearean classic, which also happens to be one of my favorite movies. Juliet is basically saying that she doesn't care that Romeo bears the name of Montigue, her Capulet family's arch enemies, she would love him no matter who he is. SPOILER: Things don't turn out well for the lovers.
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself."
Whatever happened to Olivia Hussey? What a great beauty and fabulous actor she was. While we ponder her whereabouts, please visit my Contemporary Botanicals art gallery to see more of my floral artwork.
