Description
"Daphne Rootbound"
A digital oil painting on canvas based on an early 20th century Greek mythology illustration by Arthur Rockham in the book "Cormus," of the naiad Daphne being turned into a tree by her father Peneus (I can't make this stuff up) at her own request, in an attempt to escape Apollo and preserve her chastity after Apollo was shot with an arrow by Eros that caused him to fall in love with Daphne, and she's shot with an arrow causing her to hate Apollo. My version is done in an updated contemporary style with a more colorful palette. I used shades of blue, green, yellow, orange, brown and red for my interpretation of the mythological scene. Please visit my Portraiture art collection to see more of my fantasy portrait artwork.
