Description
"Indian Elephant"
A digital soft pastel painting of a caparisoned Indian elephant painted in shades of vibrant red, green and yellow. Elephants have been adorned for centuries in India, often as a representation of the Indian deity Ganesha (a symbol of good luck and wisdom), and the decorative practice is an art in itself. Mahavats (elephant riders) use a thin piece of cut bamboo to apply the intricate motifs with a paint made with sandstone. The ornamentation is usually based on designs inspired by nature such as flowers, leaves and animals, and the hand painted decorations can actually last for weeks! Please visit my Asian Art gallery to see more of my East Indian artwork, and my The Zoo gallery to see more of my animal art, both real and imagined.
