The current uptick in the effort to ban books on the part of conservatives in the United States is not an accident. They need to keep their constituents ignorant and uneducated to retain power because educated, smart constituents won't vote for them. The Pew Research Center has found "Highly educated adults, particularly those who have attended graduate school, are far more likely than those with less education to take predominantly liberal positions across a range of political values." Smart, educated people do not vote Republican and smart, educated people don't ban books. Be smart.
