Description
"Tromso Norway"
A digital oil painting of spring on Tromsoya island in the Tromsoysundet strait in Tromso, Norway, based on my original photograph. I painted my scenic little island and cabin in earthy tones of brown, deep plum purple, yellow and sage green, surrounded by the blue and green water of the strait, with the mountains of the alps off in the distance. Tromso is unusual in that although it lies above the Arctic Circle, it is relatively mild even in winter because its climate is affected by the Gulf Stream; in fact the coldest temperature ever recorded was -1.1°F, considerably warmer than the coldest winter temperatures I've experienced in the mid Atlantic United States. Tromso's claims to fame include that it was the origination point for many historical arctic expeditions, and it is home to the Norwegian Polar Institute. Now I just need to figure out how I can rent that little cabin and watch the northern lights.
