Description
"Two Scarlet Macaws in Watercolor"
Two scarlet macaws snuggle on a perch in a digital watercolor painting on a cotton rag paper canvas texture. Large birds that can grow to almost three feet (one meter) long, scarlet macaws are popular in aviculture and the pet trade due to their exceedingly colorful plumage, which sports vibrant red, blue and yellow. Indigenous to Central and South America, the scarlet macaw is the national bird of Honduras. As a parrot owner myself, I can tell you from first-hand experience that these guys are exceedingly loud and much better talking birds than my Goffin cockatoo. Macaws are very long-lived, up to 90 years, and are often willed to the next generation! My pet portrait was given a pale wash of red and blue, and includes the splatters and color bleed one would expect with traditional wet watercolor. Please visit my Avian Flights of Fancy art gallery to see more of my bird art, and The Zoo for more animal artwork.
