Description
"Clownfish - Creatures of the Deep Series"
Three clownfish (also known as anemonefish) swim among the sea anemones on a coral reef in my colorful digital soft pastel painting. Darlings of reef tank and saltwater aquarium hobbyists, they are one of the most popularly kept marine fish. There is a reason you always see clownfish and anemones together; they have a symbiotic relationship; they protect each other from predators and clownfish eat the remaining food scrap left by the anemones. Even more amazingly, clownfish are male as juveniles and only become females as adults. Only one pair in the group mate and if something happens to the dominant female, a male changes sex to take her place. I've kept a variety of different clownfish, including the A. percula (or "percs" as enthusiasts call them) pictured here, but they come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Fourth in my Creatures of the Deep series of four. Please visit my The Zoo art gallery to see more of my sea life artwork, including the other three pieces in this series.
